Georgian director Ana Urushadze has received major international recognition, as her film Secondary Role won two awards at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2026.

The film, supported by the Georgian National Film Center, was awarded the Tiger Special Jury Award as well as the FIPRESCI Prize.

The awards were announced during the festival’s official ceremony, where winners of the Tiger and Big Screen competitions were revealed. The Rotterdam festival is widely recognized as one of Europe’s key platforms for innovative and emerging cinema.

Secondary Role was selected for the Tiger Competition, the festival’s main program focused on bold debut and second feature films. This year’s lineup included 12 world premieres, with one main Tiger Award and two Special Jury Awards presented by the jury.

In its statement, the jury praised the film for its sensitivity and cinematic craft, highlighting its attention to detail, emotional depth, and its exploration of human experience through performance.
